TRADEMARKS
Basically, a trademark or service mark application can be filed using a Trade Mark Application Form 4. In addition to the information/details required to be filled on the form, the following should be observed while applying:-
One representation should be affixed or pasted on the application and seven (7) others to be attached. The representations should be clear and legible and should not exceed the 80mm x 60mm size;
The person signing or executing the application form must be dully authorized to do so. The officer should be in such a position so as to legally bind the company. Where an Agent acts for and on behalf of an individual or legal entity, a Power of Attorney or evidence authorizing such acts should be furnished.

PATENTS
National or Standard Application
The following are required to complete a patent application in Papua New Guinea and should be filed in triplicate (3 copies) under the Patent and Industrial Designs Act 2000.
- The application is composed of several parts which are:-
- The request (Form 1);
- Description;
- Claims;
- Abstract; and if any
- Drawings or diagrams or sequence listing part.
- A filing fee of K1000 Bank Check or Bank Draft in favour of the Investment Promotion Authority.
- Additional pages should be numbered correctly and the text, drawing or diagrams must be legible for printing, scanning, photocopying and reproducing purposes.
PCT National Phase Entries
For PCT applications entering national phase, the following are the minimum requirements:-
- PCT Request;
- PCT Publication including description, claims, abstract, and if any, drawings or diagrams or sequence listing parts; and
- If any at the time of applying, the International Search and/or International Preliminary Report.
- A filing fee of K1000 Bank Check or Bank Draft in favour of the Investment Promotion Authority.
- Additionally, documents indicated under items 1, 2 and 3 above should be legible enough for printing, scanning, photocopying and reproducing purposes.
