  1. Enhancement of IPOPNG Capacity

This program involves human resource development, improvement in laws and policies, improvement in systems and procedures for granting of IP rights, and the establishment of IPOPNG as an independent, fully fledged IP office. All these measures are aimed at enhancing capacity of the office so that it can be able to carry out its functions as expected and play a meaningful role in PNG's development.

  2. Development of National IP Policy

Intellectual Property is a huge field and the IP Offices alone cannot be able to address all IPR related issues. There are cross-cutting issues in IPR administration and it requires stakeholder participation, especially by relevant government bodies and IP right owner groups. To be able to do that, there needs a policy direction and commitment by the National Government. PNG currently does not have a national policy on IPR. IPOPNG has therefore taken the initiative to develop a national policy that will provide the road map and direction for IP development in the country.

  3. Networking with Stakeholders and IP Awareness

This program involves building and strengthening networks with stakeholder organisations. Sharing and exchanging information and collaborating to strengthening the IP system is important. It also involves carrying out programs to educate people about the importance of intellectual property. The objective of the program is to have increased level of IP Awareness and to promote and encourage more creativity and innovation.

  4. Management and Implementation of International Cooperation arrangements

This program involves managing well the existing cooperation arrangements that PNG has with other international organisations and IP Offices. It will also involve joining international conventions/treaties and establishing more meaningful working relations with established IP offices in the region. The objective of this program is to share information and experiences so that we can build our IP regime and at the same time being able to participate meaningfully in addressing IPR issues at the international level.

  5. Self-sustainability

This program involves identifying and building on revenue options. The objective of the program is that the office must be able to grown and sustain its operations for the long term. This is all consistent with the IPOPNG's plan to be establish and operate as an independent government agency in the new future.
