PNG has been the signatory to the Singapore Trademarks Law Treaty but is yet to be ratified. Preparations are now been made to accede to Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks.

"Trade Marks law is now undergoing a review and amendments to meet the TRIPS standards." The amendment to Trade Marks Act and regulation are in compliance with the requirements of the Singapore Treaty on the Law of Trademarks.

The Patents and Industrial Designs Act has also been amended to incorporate provisions on PCT, substantive examination, compulsory licensing and other important provisions that are not covered by the current law.

With respect to Copyrights, PNG is yet to accede to any of the copyright treaties and conventions but by virtue of its membership to WTO, the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act is TRIPs compliant.
